The Toughest Place to Be a Bus Driver

This is a long video but it is worth watching every minute.   It’s a British documentary about a London Bus Driver who comes to Manila to try to drive a Jeepney (a Filipino bus).  The latter half is great and goes into so much detail about different aspects of life for the poor in Manila, much of which I didn’t know.

It really shows what real life is like in Manila for so many.  It is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

It shows how loving and welcoming Filipinos are even when they have nothing.  It really drives home what a poor nation this is.  The video states that one third of the population in Manila live on less than 80 pesos a day (less than two dollars).

It also shows how hardworking Filipinos are.   As the British bus driver, Josh, says, people shouldn’t have to work so hard for so little.  People here really do work so hard and really receive so little in return.  I often think about what Josh says in this video, that it’s completely random that he was born in London and Rahelio was born in Manila.  It could so easily have been the other way around.
