Eat, Love and Pray in Ubud

We decided to bring Maria, our nanny, to Bali with us.  One of the many benefits of this was that we were able to go to lots of fun dinner with Daf and MJ (more on that later) and we were also able to spend a whole day exploring Ubud.  Ubud was about an hour and a half away from Nusa Dua where we were staying so the three hours in a car, plus trekking around rice terraces, plus the late dinner we had planned meant Adam would have much more fun at home taking a long nap and hanging out by the beach.

It was a great day and wonderful to have the whole time to focus on sightseeing and spending time with Daf and MJ.

Our first stop in Ubud was for a yummy lunch.  We went to Three Monkeys and sat out back by the rice terraces.

My yummy beet salad

After lunch the ladies were allotted two hours of shopping.  We walked around all of Ubud but didn’t see anything to buy.  The irony of having two hours to shop and two willing husbands and finding nothing does not escape me.

We did see lots of these beautiful offerings that are left outside all of the doors in Bali.   They were full of beautiful flowers and food offerings.

and lots and lots of motorcycles.

After shopping we headed out to see the Tegallalang rice terraces.  These are the second largest rice terraces in Bali and were beautiful.

After the rice terraces we headed to the Four Seasons in Ubud.  It had been recommended to us to have a drink there and described as making you feel like you’re in a Bond movie.  This turned out to be a pretty accurate description.  After driving in through a narrow road surrounded by foliage you come across a bridge that goes over a ravine with a river and have to walk down stairs to the lobby.

Once inside you have a beautiful view of a mountain and the river.  We enjoyed some yummy drinks and took in the view.   We of course had to order some martinis in order of 007.

We didn’t know but at sunset every night the four seasons has a band come play traditional Balinese music and dancers come and perform.  It made the drinks all the better!

After drinks we headed off to dinner at a great hotel, the Viceroy.  They gave us a very large table 🙂 but the food was delicious even if we couldn’t share it.
