One Cool Cat

I blinked and all of a sudden my Malcolm is 18 months old! Sometimes I look over at him and I just can’t believe this big boy is my teeny little baby!

Malcolm has been saying Mama, Dada, Ada (Adam) and this for while now. But just recently he’s added some new words! It’s so exciting to hear him and see his little personality develop.  New words include nana (banana), Grandma, anima (animal), salad (don’t ask), mmmmm for when he sees a cow and arf for when he sees a dog. He looooves dogs and literally screams with excitement when he sees one. He was scared of them but when we adopted my friends dog for a weekend he became a total convert. He’s obsessed with the little Rottweiler puppy doll Uncle Ari got for Adam. He’s actually obsessed with most stuffed animals. The opposite of Adam, who only recently for the first times has started sleeping with a Harrods cat our friend brought from London. That should be easy to replace if lost….just involves a quick trip to London.

Malcolm is such a strong little boy. He knows what he wants but he’s also different than Adam in that he picks his battles.  He’s more laid back about things like switching off the bottle, taking baths (Adam loves them but has gone through anti bath stages), playing with toys. But let me tell you, try to convince him to do something he doesn’t want to do and it will take you a while!

He loves walking places with you. He will walk over to you, take your finger and lead you everywhere. His favorite thing to do is pick a book from the bookcase, hand it to you and plop down in you lap to listen.  He LOVES books! He loves to pick a book to read before bed. He will listen to his book faithfully, but when it’s time for Adam’s bedtime book he’s off the bed and playing.

Every time he sees me getting ready to leave for work he heads over and tries to put on his shoes, adamant that he’s coming with me! He loves to dance and has pretty good rhythm! He gets that from his daddy. He will dance to anything, music in the elevator, the start of Magic School Bus, a cell phone ring.

He hasn’t had a haircut yet but we’re pretty much ready. When he goes to the bathroom he pats his butt until you change him. Maybe he’s ready for potty training 🙂 He holds his hands up for wiping when they’re dirty but to be honest dirt does not bother this one.  Randy calls him pig pen as he is often covered with food, markers, stickers, snots.

He wakes up every morning at 5:30 on the dot and calls- Mama! Mama! in his most robust voice as if it is obvious to the world that I should immediately respond. Then he flings all his stuffed animals out of his crib in protest when I don’t immediately come fetch him.

He copies everything his big brother does, from climbing up the back of the couch, to dragging suitcases around the house to being sassy. He can’t understand why he can’t also go to school every morning, ride a bike and walk everywhere like his big brother.

He has a sweet heart. He walks over sometimes just to give me a hug or a pat. He loves to give kisses and when his brother is sad (aka – throwing a fit) he immediately comes to see how he can help.

I can’t wait to see what there is to come! He’ already pretty cool, I’m not sure Manila is ready for you Malcolm!
