Fox Temple

Our second day in Japan we hopped on the bullet train and headed to Kyoto.  The train system in Japan is awesome! The trains are frequent, clean and on time. We headed to the station and got on a train and an easy three hours later were in Kyoto! Ok, maybe it was easy because we had no toddlers to entertain.

We got to Kyoto, checked in to our hotel and headed out for some dinner.  Walking around Kyoto everywhere you look is beauty.

We stopped for a pre-dinner snack of cheese balls. Not my favorite food item but it was fun to walk around and see different food stalls.

To follow up our cheese ball appetizers we headed for a pre-dinner drink and then to an amazing sushi meal.

Here is what I love about Japan.  This whiskey bar has been around for 97 years and serves only whiskey. It’s run but a father and a son who select the best whiskeys to serve.  I think we should go back for their 100 year anniversary.

Third course of our sushi meal was this fish.  For all you who know me, I’m a bit of a picky fish eater. But I had promised myself to try everything in Japan.

As you can see I loved it! The best part was the salty tail.  I asked what this was but they didn’t know the name.  All I got was a sort of river trout.  Mmmmm, now I’m hungry and craving this fish!

The next morning we woke up early and headed to Fushimi Inari Shrine or as I can actually pronounce – the Fox Temple.

This temple has thousands of these orange gate all lined up. We started walking and they just kept coming.

I saw these two and I thought of Aunt Das- I figured this would be us in 50 years on our girls trip.

There was a spot were you could write a wish on a fox and leave it.  We left one for Adam and Malcolm, for a small fee of course.
