Big Boy Bed

Guess who figured out how to climb out of his crib in California.  That’s right. This guy!
The first night Malcolm walked right into our room. It totally shocked me! Adam had never once crawled out of his crib and at two and half years old and I had to move him out to let the new tenant in. I wasn’t sure if the travel crib was smaller and if his crib in Manila would keep him in.
The first night back in Manila Malcolm tried to crawl on out. So…..time to open up the crib.  Timing was of course not opportune to say the least. With jet lag in full force it made for some sleepless nights. But after a couple nights of walking Malcolm back to bed he adapted pretty well and is now sleeping there all night. He’s up with the roosters but that is another conversation (one in which we discuss why my kids are the world’s earliest risers!)
It also made me nostalgic to think that this is the first time in three and a half years that we don’t have someone sleeping in a crib. Sob…you can already tell how good I’ll be at saying goodbye when I drop my kids off at college.

But I am so happy at the amazing little boy Malcolm is turning into. He’s so into books. He will go to the bookcase, pick a book and plop down on your lap refusing to budge until you read him a story. He loves showing you things and will call mama, grab my arm and point at anything over and over until I give him my undivided attention.

And here is a list of  all the words Malcolm started saying in the US and since we’ve been back. This list grows every day!
  • Elephant
  • Binoculars
  • Love you
  • Apple (his favorite)
  • Watermelon
  • That (said quite frequently when he wants something)
  • Pufferfish
  • Uh-Oh (said ALL the time)
  • There
  • Owl
He also knows where his nose, ears, mouth, tummy, head, hair and feet are! And he knows blue and purple!

He feeds himself like a champ using his hand to shovel in the food that falls off the spoon. His favorite foods are raisins and watermelon, close second is anything from the treat cabinet. He heads over to the cabinet like he owns the place and using his strong pointer finger (drawing his hand back like a bow first before shooting that arm out super fast) to point out that he deserves a treat.

I love that Malcolm eats his apples like this. He chews the white part all the way to the skin and then hands me the skin.

I love seeing how different the two boys are in personality.  Malcolm is so much bolder at home, he will climb up anywhere and try to go everywhere where Adam was not into climbing at that age.  Out of the house Malcolm is much more shy outside. When people say hi he hides behind my leg at first until he gets comfortable.  He copies everything Adam does and loves to play with him but he is no pushover. He sticks up for himself and constantly wavers on the line between being assertive and being a toddler.
I love seeing all the changes that are happening daily and watching him explore the world!
