There are many perks of living in the Philippines. But one thing that we definitely don’t get in Manila are things like this right here-a Trader Joe’s Gingerbread house that is super easy to put together and super cute. But we are lucky that Grandma Gertch finds things like this and sends them to us! It kind of silly but it makes me feel a little closer to home.
This right here is so American. I always realize just how American I am when we do things that seem so normal to me but surprise our nanny, like make a whole cookie house just for decoration (because now its been 4 days and I’m not sure if you can still eat it?) or carve a whole overpriced imported pumpkin for decoration. When I try to explain why we are doing it, I generally have no explanation, besides that’s just what Americans do. And I love it! I have been away for so long and I am pretty excited for all this next year. Trader Joes, Target, Dollar Store – I’m coming for you next year when we’re back in DC! My house is going to be one big decorated hot mess 🙂
It is also super exciting for the boys. They’ve never seen a gingerbread house, since I am just not skilled enough to make this from scratch. They were so exited I let them make it the day it arrived, even though it was a Monday. Most of the decorative candy ended up right in Malcolm’s mouth, but a few made it on his side of the roof.
Surprisingly most of Adam’s ended up on the roof! He even made some patterns with the black bats and white bones.
Eventually Malcolm stopped eating all the candies and put some on his roof.
They were so excited about this little house that there wasn’t even fighting over the candy. Thank you Trader Joes for packing lots of candy, enough for everyone!
And with that our Halloween festivities come to a close! We’re away next weekend so we celebrated early. Happy Halloween everyone!
