Kinder

Adam has had an amazing kindergarten year. I can’t believe Adam is already done with kindergarten and moving on to first grade! That’s like a real elementary student. He started ISM a little nervous as we all did, not knowing what would happen. The first time I put Adam on the bus I was so nervous and not sure he would come back, but he wasn’t nervous at all. He was so ready to be a kindergartner and spent the year growing and learning. He learned how to read, add and subtract numbers, be kind to friends, deal with friends who aren’t always nice to everyone, help others when they need it, be outspoken during circle time, express yourself, do a handstand, share the fun days with Malcolm and be gracious and excited when Malcolm joined, tell his friends and teachers all about the new baby in the house, rock climb, participate in PE, music and art, and to be a fabulous student- although he already had that down pat.
Adam’s report card was full of the sweetest things, here are some snippets-  “Adam has had a great year in kindergarten. He has shown himself to be a caring friend and a curious and self-directed learner. He has proven very diplomatic in helping peers with conflicts and had contributed many ideas to enrich the learning in the classroom. He is able to reflect on past experiences and articulate what he has learned from them. Adam demonstrates great confidence in social situations and continues to develop his ability to persevere and follow through on his many ideas.”
Here are some highlights from his year.
First day on the bus

With his whole class.
Adam’s words (Mira’s not pictured because she was born 12 days after Adam started school and this picture was brought in the first week but written two weeks later, when I in fact did work for the baby).

Every Friday morning Adam’s class had reading with parents. I was really lucky to be able to make every single one this year. Sometimes he sat on my lap and sometimes his friends did, sometimes he read with his teacher and sometimes he read to me but I loved every minute of seeing him in his classroom and learning all about what he was doing in there.

Every Friday before reading with parents, Adam would run off to the play in the playground and leave me to hang out. He’s lucky he’s so cute! Here we are week three when Miral was keeping me up loads, good thing she’s so cute.

oh and three cafeterias and a cafe and they don’t sell water anywhere at ISM….some lucky days I would remember to bring water (nothing like a thirsty nursing mom with no water to drink)

Adam’s class would make their own books. His contribution were always about iphones and minecraft, neither of which he has!
Every week Adam would bring home books to practice his reading- here is the first book he read to us all by himself!
Adam and his classmates deconstructing stuff

Adam spent lots of time writing books and learning all about how to write a successful book, New York Times Bestseller list here we come.

Adam’s school has the best library. Every Friday I would take both boys to pick out 5 books each. We would stop at the cafeteria for some chicken nuggets on the way and then head to the library to check out some library books. Both boys loved this Friday activity! I’m very lucky that I’ve been able to work from home on Fridays this year, so I can go to reading with parents in the morning and the library in the afternoon and cram all my work in between.

Adam’s student led conference, he reviewed himself very well 🙂

Oh this paper mache pepper, Adam talked about this pepper for weeks and couldn’t wait for open house to show me and to bring it home…somewhere between leaving school and getting home it was misplaced, the poor pepper. Let’s not mention the pepper to Adam please…

All accurate
There was a special Kindergarten concert with awesome songs!

Adam’s last day of school!

Malcolm loved walking Adam to the bus, he would pop on and say hi to everyone before the bus left.

His class decided to have a rock party for the end of the year. Adam was SO excited! He spiked his hair and chose his coolest outfit.

The whole school year Adam loved having Malcolm come visit him at school and invited him to everything.

The Flaming Firebombs!

For the last day of school Adam’s best friends Victoria and Devon slept over. It was bittersweet since Victoria moved back to the US a few weeks later. Victoria was Adam’s first friend in Manila when we moved here 5 years ago. It was pretty fitting his first sleepover party was with his first two friends. Look how these two cuties slept!

First Grade here we come!
