Moving in

Our first few weeks in Kyiv were a lot of firsts, like every time we move.  We have an amazing apartment here, big and comfy and in the center of Kyiv. Our first weekend here we put our sweaters on and explored our neighborhood.

Of course we had to check out the supermarket, which was amazing! It has everything.

We arrived just a few days before Halloween so thankfully we remembered to bring our costumes with us! Here we have one Skye, one red power ranger and one soldier.

We were reunited with Eli, who was one of Adam’s first friends in DC and his mom and dad were on of our first friends in DC. Me and Kathryn were pregnant at the same time and these two were born two months apart. His dad works with Randy and they were SO helpful helping us get settled in.
We went trick or treating, which was a good idea in theory but as we were traipsing along the streets with other kids I was sure I was going to lose one of my three kids, which led us to this photo opp and the best photo I could take keeping track of everyone.
For the first time in a very long time Randy and I went to a Halloween party and even dressed up, well Randy dressed up and i wore the wig the owner of the gorilla costume threw in the bag for me to borrow.
Adam also was reunited with his friend Elliot, these two were in the same class in Virgina and now are traipsing around markets in Kyiv! What a small (foreign service) world it is.

Randy got to show me all the fun restaurants he scoped out for us to try.

The boys took photos for their diplomatic ids, how cute are these!

And then these two started school! Here they are at their misty bus stop. Malcolm’s kindergartner teacher is Miss Jackson and Adam’s 2nd grade teacher is Miss Nikki. They both loved the school right away and felt at home really quickly. The school is small and very well run so I’m sure that helped.

Miral got to explore her new home. Her favorite spot like all my kids at 2 is the bidet. She loves playing in the ‘little toilet’ as she calls it.
She also was excited to read in her and Malcolm’s new room by the window.

We got outside and went for some long walks. We are in the center of town and there are beautiful buildings and churches all around.

And parks! So many parks all around!

First impressions of Kyiv, it’s a beautiful city and we are all very excited to get to know it more.
