Acropolis or bust

When we arrived in Athens we headed right out to explore a bit before meeting our friend Elianna for dinner, but it started raining, so we hopped on a sightseeing bus and it ended up being the best rainy activity out there! These three LOVED it!

Miral even squeezed in a little nap.
The rain stopped but Miral’s nap didn’t, so we stopped to have an aperitif.

Athens is one of my favorite cities of all times and there is nothing better than being able to hang out there with my family, enjoying the light and the feeling I get only in Athens.

Then we were off to meet my best friend in Greece, Elianna for dinner. I have known her since I was a baby and I love seeing her when I am in Greece. I usually see her family too but because they are older and because Covid, we only saw Elianna this time. She always knows the best new restaurants in Athens. We had a yummy dinner out and crammed in a year of catching up in a night and it felt like we had just seen each other, as it always does.

On our last day in Athens we took the kids to the Acropolis. I have always wanted to take them and it was amazing. There was no one there, no line for tickets and no crowds! It was hot (as it always is on the Acropolis) and Miral definitely hit grumpy toddler stage pretty quickly but thankfully Randy carried her on his shoulders for a while. I still remember going to see the Acropolis when I was a child and I hope the kids remember this when they are grown as well. It is pretty special to see it up close! This was all I wanted to do with the kids in Athens and the boys were great, despite the heat and they loved it and I know Miral deep down loved it too, despite the many, many, many complaints. Chance of a lifetime and even more amazing to see it with so few people around!

This might be my favorite picture ever. One of the seven wonders of the seven wonders of the world is right behind him and Malcolm instead was enthralled for a good 20 minutes by a pile of ants….this is Malcolm in a nutshell.

After a lot of grumpiness and complaints this one was pretty excited to leave the Acropolis.

We all had some ice-cream to cool off!

Followed by one last delicious taverna meal in Plaka where the boys got their second coke of the trip to celebrate our last meal in Greece.

I am going to miss the food the most….

And the naps on me!

One short masked trip and we were home, missing Greece but excited to see our friends again and celebrate Miral’s third birthday!
