Learning Curve

This post will only be interesting to me and maybe one person (Kate, I’m talking about you).  I am by no means an expert on newborns, toddlers or anyone under five (or anyone over five for that matter).  These are just some truths (for me) that I find I’ve learned the second time around.

1. All a baby needs at birth is a dresser with his clothes. Especially if they’ll be in your room for the first couple of months.  While it was nice that Adam had his room all set up for him when he came home from the hospital, the first five months we only went in there to get stuff that we needed to bring into our room where he was sleeping.  This time around, with Malcolm so early we hadn’t set anything up so when we finally got home I set up a dresser for Malcolm and we’ll get everything else set up when we need to.  Malcolm’s not complaining, he’s pretty comfy in there with us.

2. A Double Breast pump is the best investment you can make and worth every penny.  This has hands down changed my life this time around.  I’ll spare you all a picture on this one.
3. An Arms Reach Co-sleeper is the second best investment you can make if the baby is sleeping by your bed for the fist couple of months.  With Adam I had him next to our high bed in a low bassinet and when you’re getting up for the third time in the middle of the night and exhausted, being able to grab the baby without getting out of bed is amazing.  I did a lot of research about co-sleepers and while there were some beautiful bassinets that were not co-sleepers and weren’t up as high as this one, I decided to go with form over function and it was the best decision ever.  Thanks Grandma Yuyu for getting Malcolm his first bed!

The co-sleeper is usually attached to our bed, but here we moved it so Malcolm could get some sun (he’s still jaundice so we sunbathe every day).

4.  Never underestimate your children.  This little guy who is now six and a half pounds rolled over the other day at five weeks!
5. Soak in every minute because it passes so, so fast! Before I know it Malcolm will be Adam’s size and Adam will be in school!

Adam insisted on wearing a bib like his little brother, so we let them be twinsies.  Pretty ironic since Adam hasn’t let me put a bib on him in almost a year.  If only Malcolm

  1. That is the sweetest unorganised newborn dresser I've seen. Look at Malcolm's chunky thighs in his roll over picture. For me you are a newborn expert. I couldn't have survived without your guidance and constant help – thank you thank you. xx
