Easter Party – Take two

Our building had an Easter Party the week before Easter that the Alis attended.  We dressed up in our Easter best and headed down.

When we first moved here I was actually surprised at how little culture shock I felt.  I didn’t know this before coming here but Filipinos really love American stuff.  There is even a Coscto here (called S and R).  Anything you want you can find here, from almond milk to pine nuts to coconut ice cream to feta cheese.

That being said, when I go to events like this I realize that there really are some major cultural differences.

Number one being the food.  they brought in Jollibee for everyone.  What is Jollibee you ask? It’s the Filipino McDonalds.  I promised Adam some French fries until I realized they were serving hamburgers with a side of macaroni in sweet sauce with cut up hotdogs in it…

Adam wasn’t a fan.

Number two was the entertainment.  While we were expecting a more traditional Easter Bunny,  Bingo greeted us at the door.  While some of his magic tricks were decent, this one stopped me in my tracks.  He pulled out his ‘gun’ aka his finger and shot his pigeon who then pretended to be dead.  Not really what I would consider appropriate for a room full of toddlers.

Number three- the Easter Egg hunt.  All the kids went out to look for eggs but they were empty.  The egg hunt was actually to see who could collect the most empty eggs and that person was awarded a live rabbit.  Just what every parent of a toddler wants.  Thankfully Adam only collected a handful and I gave him some M&Ms and we called it even.

Wait, there are no cindies inside??

All that being said we still had a good time and it was nice of our building to go through all the trouble to throw a party for all the kids.  Easter here is the biggest holiday of the year and its nice to see how they celebrate.
