Locorotondo

While we were in southern Puglia we spent most days exploring new towns, finding a yummy lunch and buying delicious meat, fish and vegetables. Then off to a beach and home to cook the yummy meat, fish and veggies for dinner.
Well, Locorotondo was definitely the crown jewel in our week. We headed to lunch expecting a great meal, but the minute we say down and eyed the menu we knew this was something special. So special we even ran back to get the kindle (we hadn’t broken it out for a meal thus far 10 days in so you know we were really excited). We ordered the tasting menu and got the boys the steak to keep them happy  (a sure fire and affordable win in Italy that boy dgobble up). Randy and I ordered a four course tasting menu (a luxury afforded to us entirely thanks to the kindle) and it was definitely the right decision!

First course- a pumpkin and ricotta souffle. As delicious as it sounds. A note here about Italian food, they really care about food. They get flavors and they pay attention to details. For example, ricotta. I’m sure everyone at some point has had ricotta. But in Italy, ricotta is so delicate and sweet and delicious that I would just eat bowls of it for breakfast. The fruit and vegetables are so fresh and taste so amazing! When you go to the supermarket you have to wear a plastic glove to pick fruit or you will be instructed to put that glove on!

Second course, delicious pasta with eggplant, burratta, meat and tomatoes. This was the favorite. The flavors were perfect together. I don’t even know the name of the pasta. There were so many pastas in Italy I had never even seen before, and I’ve eaten A LOT of pasta in my days.

Next course was another delicious pasta, orechiette with donkey meat. Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it! It was absolutely delicious. I actually didn’t know it was donkey meat while I was eating it, maybe that helped. It just tasted delicious.

Palette cleanser came next, a cucumber that was so sweet it tasted like a melon. These two gobbled it up and asked for another. I can’t believe a cucumber could taste so amazing.

Next course was the protein course. Usually by this course in a tasting menu I am too full to eat anything, let alone a lamb chop. Well, this lamb chop was the most delicious parmesan encrusted lamb chop I have ever tasted. I ate the whole thing and would have eaten more.

After our amazing lunch and a viewing of Zootopia we headed out to explore the town and walk off some of that pasta! The town on a beautiful hill and had a beautiful pedestrian town that the boys were excited to run around in.

This was added to our short list of places to return to! We were going to be staying near here with Daphne and MJ so we planned to return!

  1. The dishes all look delicious! I can't imagine the cucumber being eaten without anything. The boys are lucky to experience a lot of cultures, food and destinations at a young age. 🙂
